FORTRESS LOVRIJENAC is sometimes dubbed the "Gibraltar of Dubrovnik " and many a Shakespeare play was set there. It is believed that it was first constructed in the 11th century, but the present day fort was built in the 14th century and reconstructed many times since. Lovrijenac rises 37 meters high on a rock above a bay to the west of the city walls.
It offers phenomenal views and a unique experience of Dubrovnik’s natural setting – the sea, the rocks, and the pine covered hills around it. Lovrijenac has become an iconic venue for events, dinners, plays, concerts, weddings.

To reach the fort, one must climb 200 stairs, there are no elevators

Welcome to Restaurant Klarisa, where history and tradition are intertwined with top-notch gastronomy.
Situated within the City Walls, just a few steps from the Great Onofrio’s Fountain, restaurant Klarisa is a gem hidden in the former convent of St. Claire. Built in the 13th and 14th centuries, its history is marked by constant change.
In the era of Dubrovnik Republic, religious women of high estate would renounce the world to join the order of St. Francis – the poor Clares (the order of Saint Claire).
Over centuries, this vibrant heart of the town had many different, but always important uses. Though it may seem hard to believe from today’s perspective, this place was once an orphanage, one of the oldest in Europe. With the arrival of the French in 1806 all convents in Dubrovnik were closed, and the well-known Klarisa was turned into a stable and an ammunition warehouse.
Present days brought a new purpose: one part houses the offices of Dubrovnik Diocese, whereas its ground floor has been a restaurant for decades, which tells a story of tradition, gastronomic legacy and viticulture, in a spectacular setting.
